The Sony KDL-40EX403 – A Review
The Sony KDL-40EX403 LCD TV is one of Sony’s line of Bravia televisions. The EX403 is one of a series of improved-over-last-year liquid crystal display televisions, all of which have been upgraded from their 2009 predecessors. Even though this is the case, Sony has packed the television with a number of quality features that belie its price.
In actuality, Sony Bravia TVs have always been considered a step up above entry-level, though many online sellers are currently pricing this particular Sony KDL-40EX403 model at about 675 British pounds, with VAT.
It’s also able to display in 720p and lower, all the way down to standard definition range.
Sony has also included its Freeview tuning filter, which has been upgraded to HD.
With Freeview HD, a viewer will be able to access a wide range of UK-specific satellite channels in high definition, which is an improvement over 2009 models, which either didn’t feature the tuning filter at all or featured it in only non-HD configurations.
Sony usually also includes a certain motion control engine within just about all of its Bravia line of TVs and that’s the case in the Sony KDL-40EX403 as well.
Called a Bravia Engine 3, it’s an extremely capable processor, and one which helps to take extreme movement and fast-paced action and smooth it out so that the display will look extremely sharp and free of smearing under almost all circumstances.
With a screen size of 40 inches, this particular Sony KDL-40EX403 can do double-duty, serving as either the primary television for a small-to-medium-sized household or a very nice second television for use in a bedroom or den or study and the like.
It comes to its new owner wrapped in a very attractive piano black casing, by the way.
Sony always includes many different input and output ports on all of its Bravia televisions, and this new Sony KDL-40EX403 keeps this tradition going. There are four HDMI input ports as well as many other different kinds which can make connecting any sort of electronic component to the TV very easy.
It’s also a very slim television, measuring in at only 33.3 mm, helping to give an appearance of sleekness, it must be said.
As far as when sound and picture is combined, Sony helps to improve the total experience by including its 24P True Cinema technology suite that works extremely well with the 3-D surround sound system. Sony refers to this particular system as S-Force, and it does its job extremely well.
Even if it’s not going to be hooked up to a home theater system, there’ll be little to complain about from its sound output.
The Sony KDL-40EX403 LCD TV is a nice 40-inch liquid crystal display television from one of the best manufacturers of consumer electronics in the world. It’s value-priced at about 675 British pounds (including VAT) after voucher discounts, and it comes with all of Sony’s Bravia-specific technology functions and features.
Measuring in at 40 inches, it’s actually a bargain-priced TV, coming in as it does at about 675 British pounds, including VAT.
